What we see in Geneva homes
When the houses here were built decides what fails, how long prep takes, and what a job costs. This is Geneva specifically, not a generic service area paragraph.
The Geneva historic district is dense with Victorian and turn-of-the-century houses: fish-scale shingles, spindle work, brackets, bay windows, porch railings, dentil trim. Every one of those elements is a separate surface with its own prep and its own cut line.
Multi-color schemes are normal here rather than exotic. Body, primary trim, secondary trim, sash, and sometimes an accent on the shingle field. That is five colors and five sets of cut lines, and the layout decision has to happen up front because it changes the labor by a large factor.
The failure pattern on these houses is old paint over many older layers. You do not get a clean substrate by pressure washing. You get it by scraping to sound material, feathering the edges so the transition does not telegraph, spot priming bare wood, and re-glazing sash where the putty has gone.
Because most of these homes predate 1978 by decades, lead-safe practice is the default, not the exception. Anyone quoting a Geneva Victorian without mentioning containment has not thought about the job.
